REMEMBRANCE

“Choose confrontation wisely, but when it is your time don’t be afraid to stand up, speak up, and speak out against injustice.” (John Lewis Civil Rights Activist)

As citizens of countries all over the world witnessed the cruel and unjust way in which George Floyd died, his death caused a reaction unknown in our times.  Outraged, people of all colours, status, religions marched together as one body. It was like the last stone out of hundreds, if not thousands, that chipped away at a huge mountain until at last, the mountain toppled.

Many have continued marching and protesting, against the injustice that treats human beings so inhumanely.

I am reminded of a quote I had read some time ago by Karl Barth, “To clasp the hands in prayer is the beginning of an uprising against the disorder of the world.”

I am also reminded of the words Micah the prophet spoke in Chapter 6:8:
He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
